Typically once your child turns six months old, they are introduced to puree baby food.
Cereal with formula.
This may include:
- fruit puree
- vegetable puree
- apple sauce
Baby led weaning (BLW) is completely skipping purees and mush foods and giving babies the chance to feed themselves.
Bananas and Cheerios.
Baby led weaning has many benefits for your baby.
- Hand – Eye coordination
- Wider variety of food options
- Less picky when older.
Personally my son is now two and eats anything and everything.
Fruits for baby led weaning:
Vegetables for baby led weaning:
- Green beans
- sweet potatoes
Other Foods for baby led weaning:
- Veggie Straws
- Shredded chicken
- French Fries
- Cheerios (Any Preferred dry cereal)
- Soft granola bars
If your baby seems interested in foods, I personally recommend baby led weaning. Baby led weaning should start no earlier then six months of age is baby is interested. – Baby led weaning should be used along with Bottles/Nursing until at least twelve months.
Disclaimer: Baby led weaning is a decision that only parents should make for their children. I personally used this method for my son and had great results. There is always a risk of choking when a young child is learning to eat. Make sure you are always monitoring your child when eating. BLW foods should be cut up into small pieces and big enough to pick up.
